WSZYSTKO O LARWACH OCHOTKI

Ochotki to duża i zróżnicowana grupa muchówek. Są bardzo powszechne i możemy być pewni, że zasiedlą także nasze oczko wodne. Dorosłe owady osiągają długość 12 mm. i są podobne do komarów i wodzieni. Ich ciało jest koloru czerwonego dzięki obecności hemoglobiny we krwi. Hemoglobina sprawia, iż mogą one lepiej wykorzystać rozpuszczony w wodzie tlen i tym samym żyć w wodzie słabo natlenionej. Ochotki zamieszkują wszystkie rodzaje wód słodkowodnych. Można je spotkać w zbiornikach silnie zanieczyszczonych, jak i w beczce z deszczówką. Zwykle zasiedlają strefę denną. Budują tam z mułu małe domki (najczęściej łukowato wygięte). W oczku wodnym domki takie można spotkać na powierzchni osadów dennych, na opadłych liściach zalegających na dnie, na donicach z roślinami i pod nimi. Zauważamy je zazwyczaj dopiero przy czyszczeniu stawiku, ponieważ nie niepokojone larwy rzadko opuszczają swe domki. Gdy już wypłyną poruszają się nieporadnie wyginając ciało na boki. Są wówczas chętnie zjadane przez ryby. Generalnie larwy ochotek są bardzo pożyteczne, gdyż pomagają w uzyskaniu równowagi biologicznej w zbiorniku. Odżywiają się głównie glonami i osadami dennymi (detrytusem) pochodzenia zwierzęcego i roślinnego. W wodach płynących niektóre ochotkowate budują sieci do filtrowania drobnych, jadalnych cząstek. Zdarzają się także gatunki drapieżne.
